MG Midget 1500, ideal for classic rally`s, sprints & hillclimbs and general road use.

My 1500cc MG Midget was first registered in 1980, which probably makes it one of the “special run” of 50 black cars that were the last 50 midgets built.

It has won national awards at classic car shows, and was once featured on Top Gear on BBC TV.

It is now a roadgoing competition car that is ideal for normal road use, classic rally`s, sprints & hillclimbs in standard roadgoing class. ... It has many mods & improvements for competition and passes scrutineering easily. .... Not to be confused with standard “run of the mill” midgets, it is fast and handles like a competition car should.
I have competed in the Luffield Speed series with the MG Car Club this season, finishing 1st in the Northern section & 2nd in the National. (Not many competitors this year!). .... Reason for sale? I`m going to a more modified class next year with a 1380cc racer.

This was my assessment of the car when I bought it:

BODY:
Front wings – Both excellent. with no corrosion
Bonnet – No corrosion of front edge.
Sills – Both excellent with no corrosion
Doors – Both excellent with no corrosion
Rear wings – Both excellent with no corrosion
A posts – Both excellent. No corrosion
B posts – Both excellent with no corrosion.
Front & rear valance – Both excellent with no corrosion
Boot lid – No corrosion
The underside, spring hangers, floors etc are all excellent.

WEATHER EQUIPMENT/ INTERIOR

Hood is high quality double duck material. very good condition with no damage. Car comes with hood cover & tonneau cover.

Interior has been retrimmed properly with red carpet (slightly faded but good condition), new door panels & seats retrimmed in red leather with red trimming & inserts.

A Motolita, leather covered steering wheel is fitted


MECHANICAL ETC

The gearbox is very quiet in all gears, the diff is quiet & the engine runs very well with excellent oil pressure.

• Fit oil pressure gauge and voltmeter
• Fit starter button. (To turn engine on starter without ignition on to circulate oil)

• Have rolling road set up for precision ign timing and carb needles/settings.

Great driver! P.O. did thorough tub-off restoration before I purchased in April 2007. New: Gordon Lawson custom wood-rimmed steering wheel; three-point seat-belts; recurved distributor from Advance Distributors; all six wheel cylinders resleeved/rebuilt by White Post. Brake shoes and hoses are almost new (front) and brand-new (rear); new wiring harness from British Wiring comes with car.Car runs very well; ' drove it on 260-mile round-trip to Detroit on 9/13/09 with no problems. Came home with a 2nd place trophy from Battle of the Brits - Michigan's largest British car show, with 23 other TDs in class. It has a 4.3
rear end - cruises quietly at 3500 rpm - very close to 60 mph. At 3500 rpm, it holds 50# oil pressure. Only things not working are speedometer and clock. My recorded speeds (above) are from my GPS. If I were to keep this car I would have the shifter remote rebushed as it is noisy.

The restoration makes for a very attractive driver, if not a concours car. There are some subtle mismatches between some of the panels but it's great for a driver. Much of the chrome is new: bumpers, over-riders, headlights, and grill-shell. Side-lamps and windscreen frame are moreover sure to delight you "patina" fans. Interior is all new, as is the hood and half-tonneau. Dashboard is attractive new walnut.

So why am I selling? While my wife also loves the car, she has some spinal problems (we're both much older than "TeDdy"). My girl simply can't ride in it very much, so I can rarely share it with her - and that's what it's all about.

Given that nicely-restored TDs are now running into the mid-twenties, I'm thinking that my price of $13,900 is a real bargain for this handsome, great-running but less than perfect example. Mark 1V MG Midget in full running order with 11 months MOT. This is the 1500 model. It has been de-bumpered with an original Mk 111 grille fitted at the front and the earlier half bumpers fitted at the rear. This brings it back to the much more classic Mk III look, and also makes it about 50 kg lighter! It is also fitted with an oil cooler, a roll-over bar, a boot rack and an Astrali sport steering wheel. The hood is nearly new and in very good condition, the interior is in good condition and all switches, dials etc are in full working order. The bodywork is in generally good condition and the whole car looks good and drives well. I use the lead additive in the fuel (a bottle comes with it).

I've had midgets before (well actually frogeye sprites) and couldn't resist getting another one, but in practice I don't use it, hence decided to sell it. It's been serviced and needed only minor work for the MOT, which has 11 months to run. It also has road tax 'til the end of November. The following are the things that I'd address if I was keeping it and wanting to get it into really good nick:-

To use it as it is and drive around - nothing really - it all works, goes etc.

Things to consider . . .

I think the engine could do with some work - The oil pressure is good (60psi) and the cylinder pressures are good (180psi) it a bit noisy. The gearbox is OK but if you're too enthusiastic with a downshift to second you can crunch the gears so second gear synchro rings possibly worn, there is also a kind of light whistle in the lower gears.

To tackle bodywork. It's generally good, a couple of bits that are bubbling and an area behind the nearside rear wheel arch that I think has been filled and needs a bit of attention. Also the front edge of the bonnet has been filled - it's a classic weak spot. There's a bit on the bootlid where it's flexed because of the weight of the boot rack. The front indicators have been transplanted from the rubber bumpers so if you wanted the proper mark 3 look you'd need to either adapt or replace the wings to fit the earlier indicators.

You're welcome to come and look at it. Generally around other than abroad with work 4-9 September.

CLASSIC SPORTS CAR COLLECTION FOR SALE

Due health issues I am selling my 5 car classic car collection. Cars have won many trophies and shows and all are in excellent condition.

58 MGA Roadster Convertible. This is an original tartan red car with 58,000 miles. Car has never been restored but is museum quality. Original lacquer paint with no cracking although there are a few minor blemishes. This car is mechanically perfect changed to negative ground with new brakes and wheel cylinders/seals and rebuilt front suspension. Car has original “World” AM radio and original black leather seats with red piping with no cracking. This is a museum quality original car. Although it would be a great restoration vehicle it would be a sin to do so because it is such a beautiful and rare original car. Has painted wire wheels that are replacements with radial tires. It comes with a few spare parts and the original bias ply wheels and tires filled with real British Air and original tool kit, jack and motor crank.

64 MGB Roadster Convertible. This is a MGB pull-handle Convertible built in October of 1964. It is a 1964 car but is titled as a 65. Back in those days they often got titled in the year sold not the year built. It is a 64 because it has pull handle doors, steel dash, 3 main bearing engine and pumpkin rear end. The car has had a ground up restoration and every part has been replaced or rebuilt. This is a stock restoration so car looks like it did when it came off the production line. Tartan Red with black interior with white piping. Has modern radio/cd player. Stainless and chrome wire wheels and Pirelli tires. Optional front sway bar added. Car has had only a couple of thousand miles since restoration.


58 MG Magnette ZB. This is a restored White MG Magnette ZB that was featured in a May 2002 issue of Classic Motor Sport Magazine. World’s first sports sedan. ZB’s are very rare and there is said to be only a couple of hundred roadworthy vehicles world wide. Teac wood dash, burgundy interior and bias ply whitewall tires. The Car won premier class in SE MG Gathering of the Faithful in 2002. The car looks really good inside and out. It could use some additional exterior cosmetic work. The car is mechanically sound and has recently had a new clutch, mounts, brake cylinders, brakes, etc. Car comes with extra hard to find parts worth thousands including 3 doors, trunk, new rockers, wiper motor, heater box, radiator, water bottle, radio, steering wheel
and motif, and other misc. parts.

78 Super Beetle Convertible. Excellent Restoration in showroom condition. Red with gray top and white interior. Has rare original/functional fuel injection. This Car had a Deluxe White interior and the restoration kept the colors stock. except that the repaint that changed the dark red color to nicer bright red the car looks like it was when came from the showroom. The car runs excellent and with fuel injection can do 70 on the interstate. Comes with in dash 8-track tape player and tapes of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music. Has EMPI wheels installed but comes with original sport wheels as well. Car won many trophies. This is an excellent car that has been owned by my wife for quite some time. The car has won may show trophies.


71 Karmann Ghia Convertible, Restoration just completed. Painted viper Yellow. Practically everything rebuilt, including the motor. A completely new car. New top, tires, brakes, custom upholstery, paint, and re-chromed bumpers. Interior is unique black checker board pattern with yellow piping that is very well done interior. EMPI Wheels painted to match. Has CD player with MP3 capability. Won two shows over the summer as best VW. There aren’t many Karmann Ghia’s left.

Quality Car Trailer Comes with the Collection. Solid floor with rolled steel edges with duel axles and duel breaks.
